It's sometimes called a "non-surgical facelift". It is a different procedure from surgery, though: there are no incisions and no general anaesthetic, and the results are more subtle and don't last as long.

What is a thread lift?

A thread lift uses fine, dissolvable threads placed under the skin to support and gently reposition tissue in the lower face. As the body responds to the threads, it also produces collagen in the treated area, which can support skin quality over the following months.

How does a thread lift work on jowls and the jawline?

Threads are placed in planned positions under the skin, commonly along the jowls, jawline and nasolabial folds. Some lift and contour is visible straight away, and more change develops as collagen forms. The procedure itself takes around 20 minutes. Your appointment includes time for your consultation review and numbing.

What are the risks, and what is recovery like?

All cosmetic procedures carry risks. After a thread lift, these are common for the first one to two weeks:

• Swelling, bruising, tenderness or a feeling of tightness
  
• Small dimples or puckering of the skin, which usually settle
  

Less common risks include thread visibility or a thread working its way out, asymmetry, infection and nerve irritation. Dr Lily will go through these with you, along with aftercare. Aftercare usually includes avoiding strenuous exercise, facial massage, opening your mouth very wide and dental work for a period after treatment.

How long do thread lift results last?

Results are temporary because the threads dissolve over time. How long they last varies with your skin, age and lifestyle. Dr Lily will give you a realistic timeframe and talk through maintenance at your consultation.

Who may a thread lift suit?

A thread lift may suit adults who:

• Have mild to moderate laxity in the lower face
  
• Want to soften the jowls or nasolabial folds, or improve jawline definition
  
• Are looking for a non-surgical option and are comfortable with a subtle, gradual result
  

For more significant laxity, surgery or a combination of treatments may give a better result. Skin-focused options such as RF skin tightening or bio-remodelling may also suit. Dr Lily will talk you through the options honestly.

Frequently asked questions

Will it look obvious?

The aim is a subtle lift that supports your natural features. Some swelling or dimpling is common for the first week or two.

Does it hurt?

The area is numbed before treatment. Tenderness for several days afterwards is common.

Is a thread lift the same as a facelift?

No. It's less invasive, the results are more modest, and they're temporary. Surgery may be the better choice for more significant laxity.

Do I need a consultation first?
